The head of the UN Human Rights Council, Volker Turk, has called for stronger AI safeguards to be put in place before it is too late.

Speaking at a meeting in Geneva, Volker Turk said that artificial intelligence could pose an existential threat to humanity.

He said that he agreed with the concerns of industrialists regarding artificial intelligence. Strong, uncompromised safeguards related to AI should be ensured.

He said that few people in the world have almost unlimited power over artificial intelligence. AI-beneficiary countries must work to set mutually agreed clear boundaries for AI.
