It’s the end of the road for Staten and Quinn. Netflix has officially decided not to move forward with season 3 of the romantic drama Ransom Canyonbringing Judy Thomas’s adaptation to an end after two seasons.

For close readers of What’s on Netflix, the writing has unfortunately been on the wall for some time now, and despite a last-minute push from the cast over the weekend (and a now-deleted post by Garett Wareing, who suggested the show might be about to end a few weeks ago), it wasn’t enough to save the show.

This is Duhamel’s second high-profile cancellation for Netflix after Jupiter’s Legacy was canceled in 2021.

The series was already on borrowed time entering its second season. After a respectable and quiet premiere in 2025, the show was strictly on the bubble. It was eventually renewed for a second season over the course of two months after its debut, but it came with some heavy caveats: a reduced episode count (eight down from ten) and an extensive creative overhaul that included changing the supporting cast.

Although the release of Season 2 managed to bring Season 1 back into the weekly top ten list for a brief period, the new season ran out of steam incredibly quickly. finally, Ransom Canyon Season 2 spent three weeks in the top 10 Netflix series worldwide, with 76.1 million hours watched and 12.3 million completed views.

When those dwindling numbers are coupled with a big budget — largely driven by prominent leads — the math simply didn’t work out, especially for a high-budget drama like this, while sitcoms are a bit more lenient with renewals.

A (mostly) happy ending for fans

If there’s a silver lining to this cancellation, it’s that fans won’t be left hanging over a huge cliffhanger like they were at the end of Season 1.

Showrunner April Blair and the writing team left Staten and Quinn in a very good place by the end of season two. After a season that tested the star-crossed lovers – including Quinn’s brief involvement with someone else – the finale saw the pair get back together for good. However, some lines will remain unresolved forever. The Season 2 finale was designed to serve as a “springboard” for the next story, setting up a love triangle for Ellie (Marianle Tejada) and teasing a much larger role in Season 3 for Staten’s half-brother, Levi (Steve Howey). Unfortunately, we will never be able to see the Texas cattle breeds completely disintegrate.
