A hemoglobin blood test is usually done when people go to the doctor with complaints of extreme fatigue, drowsiness or hair loss, but health experts say that a normal report of hemoglobin alone cannot predict the correct iron status in the body.

Ferritin is a type of protein that stores iron in body cells. When the body is deficient in iron, the stores of ferritin begin to be depleted long before hemoglobin falls.

Silent symptoms of its deficiency are constant tiredness, lethargy, yellow or dull skin, excessive hair loss and difficulty concentrating are the main symptoms of low Fretin.

It is not enough to just eat iron food or pills, but it is important to see whether the body is able to absorb it or not.

Foods rich in vitamin C and copper/protein should be included in the diet for better absorption of iron.

Experts recommend that tea or coffee be kept at least an hour away from meals so as not to interfere with iron absorption. Also, starting iron supplements on your own without a doctor’s advice should be avoided.
