MQM Pakistan wrote a letter to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif demanding to give financial powers to local governments.

The letter has been written by Muttahida Qaumi Movement leader Nasreen Jalil, a copy of the letter has also been sent to the Federal Finance Minister, IMF chief and World Bank president.

The Prime Minister has been requested to pay personal attention to the issue of financial autonomy of local governments and it has been emphasized that special arrangements should be made for the financial needs of local governments.

The letter states that citizens are deprived of basic facilities due to lack of financial independence, the principles of financial equality adopted in NFC for provinces should be extended to local governments.

In the letter, MQM says that ‘Metropolitan Service Burden’ should also be made the standard of NFC for metropolitan cities.

Nasreen Jalil further said that the transfer of financial powers should not end at the door of the Chief Minister.
