We’ve been tracking Netflix’s live-action Roald Dahl mystery series for a while, and now filming has moved to another location in the UK: Bolton! After a series of exciting behind-the-scenes photos leaked from locations across the UK over the past few weeks, we’re back at the action again with more stills of the cast on location.

in Our first look at the production, Bridgerton and Derry girls star Nicola Coughlan and Then Barbara met Alan star Arthur Hughes They were spotted filming outside a police station near Manchester.
Coughlan, wearing a prominent bump and carrying a large, flowery duffel bag, was seen filming a rather intense confrontation with a black German Shepherd police dog barking on the station steps. Meanwhile, Hughes looked very much like a weary detective, wearing a rumpled suit and taking a quick coffee break between takes. Later, after publication, we found out that Coughlan is playing Mary Maloney in an adaptation of Roald Dahl’s most famous dark short story, Lamb for slaughter.
The production team hasn’t sat still since. The crew has been traveling around northern England in recent weeks. Local reports and fan views on social media have spotted Coghlan and the Netflix crew setting up shop in several picturesque coastal towns, with recent filming stops including Scarborough, Whitbyand Saltburn.
Coughlan, Toby Jones and Josh Finnan head to Bolton
After initial filming at the police station, production moved to the streets of Bolton, giving us our first look at the newly confirmed cast members Toby Jones (Detectors, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy) and Josh Finnan (Respondent, Gentlemen).
The photos show Jones, who we strongly suspect (and fans speculate) is Mr. Boggis from the classic story Parson’s Pleasure, wearing a clerical collar and tweed coat, going against the grain of Finnan. Finan, wearing a maroon jacket, was filmed angrily kicking green bin in the street before a tense confrontation.

There’s still a lot to learn about the new series, but from what we can see and what we’ve been told, this isn’t just a remake of the ITV show that aired in the 1970s but something smarter and more interconnected between multiple short stories. We’re ready to learn more.
Famous screenwriter Danny Brocklehurst (Fool me once, copper) writes the text, while Runyararo Mapfumo (Sex education) is directed by Frank Lam and serves as director of photography.
