Memorabilia of famous cultural figures including music icon pop singer Michael Jackson and British Princess Diana will be put up for auction in December this year.
According to foreign media reports, Julien’s Auctions in Abu Dhabi will feature rare items related to music, fashion and pop culture, with 11 featured items valued at up to AED 3.86 million.
According to reports, Julien’s Auctions will hold its first ever Regional Celebrity & Culture Week at Rosewood Abu Dhabi on Al Mariya Island from December 5 to 10, during which there will be 3 separate auctions, featuring fashion, music, film and other items associated with world-famous celebrities.
Among the items that have garnered the most attention are the crystal-encrusted gloves worn by Michael Jackson during a 2002 Vibe magazine cover photo shoot, estimated at $40,000 to $60,000, or about AED 147,000 to AED 220,000.
Also up for auction will be the loafers worn by Michael Jackson in the world-famous music video thriller Shahra Afaq, estimated at $20,000 to $40,000, along with a personal letter from the singer to choreographer Michael Peters.
Two jackets from Michael Jackson’s Bed era will also be auctioned, one signed by the singer and donated to the TJ Martel Foundation, is estimated at $60,000 to $80,000, while the other jacket, made for the performance of Thriller, is estimated at $30,000 to $50,000.
Princess Diana’s dresses are also part of the auction
The Abu Dhabi auction will also feature Princess Diana memorabilia, the most prominent of which is the navy blue gown designed by Catherine Walker that Diana wore to the 1995 CFDA Fashion Awards in New York.
According to media reports, the gown is expected to fetch between $200,000 and $400,000, making it the single most expensive item announced so far.
Other Diana items associated with important public engagements in the last years of her life, including a pair of suede driving loafers from Selfridges, a Ralph Lauren shirt worn by Diana, are estimated at $10,000 to $30,000.
The third auction, titled Pop Culture Legends, will feature memorabilia from celebrities including Bruce Lee, Banksy, Amy Winehouse, Kurt Cobain, Madonna, Eddie Van Halen and Sabrina Carpenter.
