Netflix’s live-action adaptation of Reiichi Sugimoto’s manga Kokumin Kuizu, titled Quiztopiawill officially come to the platform on December 17, 2026. Along with the release date, Netflix has confirmed the full cast: Reiko Ishida, Kana Kurashina, Koji Seto, and Masahiro Takashima, who will join Takayuki Yamada. Quiztopia is an upcoming Netflix original Japanese drama series directed by Teruyuki Yoshida (The 13 Lords of the Shogun) and adapted from the manga Kokumin Kuizu by Reiichi Sugimoto. The manga was serialized in 1993, but surprisingly hasn’t had any anime or live-action action yet. The series was adapted into a screenplay by Yoshida and Maggie.
The series is produced by The SEVEN, Inc. with Akira Mori, Hirotake Sasaki, and Tomoki Takase as producers.

What a plot Quiztopia?
Quiztopia takes place in an alternate reality in Japan, where a quiz show exerts a tyrannical influence over the people after being enshrined in the Japanese Constitution. High Risk, High Reward: The government grants the winners one wish, but the losers face fines, forced labor, or conscription. The show pushes the contestants to their limits, making them pursue their hearts’ desires no matter who and what the cost.

Who are the cast members? Quiztopia?
The first cast member has been announced Takayuki Yamadawho will play the host, K-ichi. The host is the charismatic force behind the game show, using his charm and exceptional performing skills to impress the nation. The actor will play the lead role in the future Netflix original series Last Standing Samurai. He also played the lead role Naked manager on Netflix.
