Provincial Information Minister Shafi Jan has said that the provincial government will have the authority to withdraw the services of the IG for unsatisfactory performance.

Speaking to the media in Peshawar, Shafi Jan said that the purpose of the new police law is to make the police more accountable to the public. Regional investigation officers will be appointed to strengthen the police investigation system.

He said that police policy and operational matters will be separated, the Chief Minister will be the head of the Police Policy Board and the IG will be the head of the Operations Board.

The provincial information minister further said that more accountability will be brought in the system of appointment and transfer of police officers, appointment and transfer of RPOs and DPOs will be done under Rules of Business 1985.

He said that the promotion of police officers, fast track promotion and direct recruitment quota will be balanced, the new law will increase opportunities for promotion and career advancement for police officers.

Shafi Jan said that a system of accountability based on performance will be introduced for the provincial police officer, the provincial government will have the power to return the services of the IG on unsatisfactory performance.

He said that the IG will be obliged to prepare an annual policing plan and submit it to the Police Policy Board.

The provincial minister also said that all the existing dispute resolution councils will be dissolved and reconstituted under the new law. The KP Cabinet also approved the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Stamp Amendment Bill, 2026.

He said that revised cost of in-tech structure and tunnel of Peshawar Water Supply Scheme was approved, release of remaining amount for land acquisition for sports complexes in Chitral was approved.
