How to check when buying eggs are fresh and good quality?

It is often asked that when buying chicken eggs, how can one know which eggs are fresh, tasty and of good quality without breaking them? In this regard, experts say that chicken eggs are nutritious and are commonly used in daily meals.

However, not every egg is guaranteed to be fresh and quality. Eggs stored too long or improperly stored can go bad, affecting both their taste and the health of the consumer.

You can gauge the freshness of an egg before cooking by simple methods of sight and smell. First, examine the shape, color, and surface of the eggshell.

The shells of fresh and high-quality chicken eggs are usually intact and bright in color, with a slightly rough surface and a fine layer of dew on top. However, processed or industrially packaged eggs do not have this natural coating.

On the other hand, use eggs with cracked, cracked or cracked shells, or with runny whites. If unusual spots such as mold appear on the peeling whites, do not use such eggs at all.

A fresh egg usually feels solid when gently shaken in the hand, and the yolk and white inside do not run loose or heavy. In older eggs, the internal contents become looser, meaning that you will feel obvious movement even with a gentle shake.

Another way to test for freshness is to hold two eggs and shake them together. Fresh eggs usually make a clear and solid sound when scrambled and almost no sound when shaken. While older eggs may make a hollow or soft sound when shaken, because the whites and yolks have loosened and there is more space inside.

Another way to determine whether an egg is edible is by smell. You can gently smell the shell by holding the egg close to your nose. Fresh eggs usually do not have an unusual smell, if any, it is usually the faint, characteristic smell of the eggshell.

Conversely, substandard eggs may develop a rancid or strange odor. If the egg smells unpleasant, it should not be used at all. Apart from checking the freshness of eggs, buyers should buy eggs from good and quality places.
