Police constable chops off 8-year-old boy’s finger over children fighting in Bangladesh, after which police constable Shakeel and his wife Nasreen have been arrested.
According to the police, the incident took place on Thursday afternoon in Nattoor city. The injured child Bayazid was taken to Nattoor Sadar Hospital for first aid, from where he was shifted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital due to critical condition.
The child’s father registered a case at the Nattur Sadar police station on Thursday night, following which the police arrested Shakeel Ahmed and his wife on Friday morning and produced them in court.
According to the police and locals, Shakeel Ahmed is posted in Nattoor and lived in a rented flat on the second floor of Bayazid’s family’s house along with his wife and 4-year-old daughter.
A family picnic was organized at Bayazid’s house on Wednesday night, which was attended by Shakeel’s daughter. The two children were playing when they got into an argument, but the families ended the matter at that time.
According to the police, Shakeel was allegedly angry over the incident and forcibly took Bayazid to his flat the next afternoon, after which the child returned home crying. A finger on his right hand was partially cut and bleeding.
The child told his mother that Shakeel placed his hand on the foot of the bed and cut his finger with a vegetable cutter. Bayazid’s mother, with the help of neighbors, first rushed him to Nattur Sadar Hospital, where after first aid, doctors shifted him to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital for better treatment.
The doctor said that the child was brought to the hospital with a part of the finger of the right hand amputated. After initial treatment, he was shifted to Rajshahi.
The victim’s father said Shakeel lived in his rented house and the two children often played together. According to him, the children’s quarrel during the picnic was minor and the two families had already resolved the issue.
He alleged that despite this, the constable locked his son in his flat and seriously injured him and wanted justice in the incident.
