Another problem has arisen for the worried people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa due to increase in the prices of petroleum products and inflation. Due to the closure of the Motorway and GT Road, there is a fear that the delivery of food items will be affected.

The disruption in the daily supply of milk, poultry and other essential commodities from Punjab is likely to reduce stocks in the market and further increase prices.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is mostly dependent on Punjab for food items including sugar, pulses, chicken, milk and other daily use items.

In view of PTI’s long march, the closure of the highways connecting Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab is likely to hamper the delivery of essential goods.

Shopkeepers say that supplies of items like chicken and milk are on a daily basis, which cannot be stored for long. The closure of the routes will also put pressure on prices if the gap between supply and demand widens in the market.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is 80% dependent on Punjab for flour and wheat and its supply is already affected, while road closures are likely to lead to shortages of flour and wheat and further increase in prices.

Food prices were already skyrocketing due to the increase in the prices of petroleum products. Now there is a fear of further increase in prices and shortage of daily essentials due to road closure affecting the supply.
