A grant agreement was signed between Pakistan and Japan for flood protection project.

According to the announcement issued by the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Japan will give a grant of 2.58 billion Japanese yen for the flood protection project in Sindh. The value of the Japanese grant is approximately US$16.4 million.

The statement said that the aim of the project is to strengthen flood prevention infrastructure in Sindh. Flood-prone populations will increase their resilience to natural disasters.

The declaration also said that the Oldabad Dam located on the right bank of the Indus River in Larkana will be improved and strengthened. The Exchange of Notes and Record of Discussion was signed by the Secretary for Economic Affairs and the Japanese Ambassador.

In this regard, Secretary Economic Affairs Humeer Karim says that Pakistan is a long-standing and valuable development partner. Japan’s continued friendship and generous development assistance is appreciated.

Secretary Economic Affairs said that he appreciates Japan’s sustainable commitment to socio-economic development of Pakistan.
