K Electric’s average basic tariff is Rs 32.37 per unit, reduced by Rs 7.60 per unit. The 19 percent reduction in the basic tariff has been upheld, even though the power company lost its appeal, but the decision will not directly affect the electricity bills of nearly 3.5 million consumers in Karachi. As a result of the decision, the average basic tariff will remain at Rs 32.37 per unit, which is Rs 7.60 less than the Rs 39.97 per unit approved in 2025. The tribunal’s decision marks the end of an appeal pending for nearly 11 months. The new tariff includes power purchase charges of around Rs 27.83 per unit, transmission charges of Rs 2.40 and distribution charges of Rs 2.90, while supply charges include a credit amount of around Rs 0.78 per unit. The dispute started on May 27, 2025, when NEPRA approved an increase of Rs 6.15 per unit, amounting to an increase of 18.18 per cent, and the following fiscal year. K Electric’s tariff for 2023-24 was Rs 39.97 per unit.
