Sri Lankan javelin thrower Romesh Tharanga Patherge had all five javelins broken in flight. When he returned home after winning the World Athletics Ultimate Championship, he found the javelin broken.

Romesh Tharanga used a foreign airlines flight to return from Hungary to Sri Lanka, according to Romesh’s coach, all five javelins were packed very carefully.

The coach said that all five javelins were broken on arrival in Colombo.

Romesh Tharanga filed a complaint against the airline. All five damaged javelins were used in Romesh Tharanga’s major victories.

Romesh Tharanga has crossed the 90m mark thrice this year. He won the gold medal in the Zurich Diamond League with a throw of 92.07 meters.

Romesh Tharanga also won the gold medal at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games by defeating Neeraj Chopra. Romesh won the javelin title at the World Athletics Ultimate Championships with a throw of 91.09 meters.

Romesh Tharanga has won 12 out of 13 competitions this year, Sri Lanka’s Sports Ministry has announced to provide Romesh Tharanga with a new javelin for the Asian Games.

The Asian Games 2026 will be held in Aichi, Nagoya, Japan from September 19 to October 4.
