Both the Indian men’s and women’s teams won gold medals in the previous Asian Games and are considered strong contenders for the gold medal in this year’s Aichi-Nagoya 2026 as well.
The dispute over the Asia Cup trophy has been going on for 2 consecutive years, recently the winning Indian women’s team refused to receive the trophy from Asian Cricket Council (ACC) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi.
It should be noted that the Indian men’s team also did not receive the Asia Cup trophy and medals from Chairman ACC Mohsin Naqvi last year.
When will Indian teams receive medals from Mohsin Naqvi?
According to an Indian media report, if the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) gives the responsibility of presenting the medals to Mohsin Naqvi, then the Indian teams will receive the medals from him, but if the Indian teams refuse, then their refusal can be considered as disrespect to the OCA and its authorized representative, which may also be subject to disciplinary action.
According to the Indian media, BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia has said that the board’s focus is currently only on matches, when the situation arises, then we will deal with it.
What is the procedure for presenting medals in the Asian Games?
Under Article 66 of the OCA Constitution and Rules, the medals are presented to the winners under the heading ‘Victory and Medals Ceremony’ by the President of the OCA, however the President has the authority to delegate this responsibility to other OCA members.
The rules state that no demonstration or commercial, political, religious or ethnic propaganda is allowed during the sports victory ceremony.
