Indian opener Abhishek Sharma got an unwanted record by getting out for a golden duck in the only T20 match against Japan.

Abhishek Sharma was dismissed for a wicket by Japanese all-rounder Charlie Hara Hanze in the match played at Sano.

After getting out for zero in the match against Japan, the Indian opener became the first player in the world to be dismissed for 10 times in the T20 format in a single year.

Earlier, Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan and Pakistan’s Shadab Khan were tied for the record of 9 and 9 wickets respectively in a year.

Rashid Khan was dismissed 9 times in 2019 while Shadab Khan was out for zero in 2024.

For Abhishek Sharma, this failure was not only disappointing but also surprising as he had scored a magnificent century against Afghanistan in the third T20 match just a few days ago.

The Indian opener scored 108 runs off just 34 balls and completed the century off just 30 balls. It was the third fastest century in T20 cricket and the fastest century by an Indian batsman in this format.

Abhishek Sharma was previously held by Rohit Sharma, who scored a 35-ball century against Sri Lanka in 2017.

In the rain-affected match against Japan, India scored 32 runs for the loss of 4 wickets in 5 overs, in response to which the Japanese team managed to score 30 runs for 3 wickets in 5 overs and India won the match by 2 runs.
