Mysterious cutouts of cats (imitation cats) were installed in two empty plots in Cape Coral, Florida, USA.
Wildlife experts believe that this move was probably done to scare away the rare species of owls that live there.
According to local volunteers, 6 such imitation cats were installed in one plot near the owl’s bill. Both the plots were recently sold and experts believe that the new owners took this unique approach to prevent more owls from settling here before they start construction on the land.
Since cats are the main prey of these owls, attempts were made to scare them away with cutouts.
These burrowing owls in Florida are protected under federal law and it is strictly illegal to disturb or remove their burrows without a permit from the appropriate department.
Volunteers from a wildlife conservation organization say people are taking extreme measures to secure their plots.
The organization has appealed to the citizens to keep their pet cats indoors to save the lives of these rare birds.
