Once again serious questions have been raised on the privacy rights of users. A recent video claims that global platforms like Facebook and Google collect a wide range of data from users’ phone and online activities, which can include browsing history, location, contacts, files and other personal information. The statement said Facebook downloads are in the billions worldwide, while internet users are relatively few, raising the question of why the same account or app is used on multiple devices and data. According to experts, modern applications seek different types of permissions from users, through which they can access location, contacts, media files, microphones and other data. According to them, this access is often granted by users through “accept” or “allow”, which is not fully understood by the average user. The statement also claims that Facebook and Instagram can collect not only online activities but also offline data such as device information, app usage patterns and location signals in different ways. Similarly, Google is said to store users’ long-term location history and search activity through its services, in some cases spanning several years.
