US President Donald Trump and Japan’s Prime Minister Sanayi Takaichi held an important meeting on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in which regional security, defense cooperation and economic partnership were discussed.

During the meeting, President Trump described Japan’s economic progress as a great success and called Prime Minister Takaichi ‘one of the great prime ministers’.

The Japanese Prime Minister thanked President Trump for his strong commitment to US-Japan unity and said that direct communication between the two leaders plays an important role in the deteriorating security situation in the Asia-Pacific region.

During the meeting, the two leaders reviewed issues of economic security, including joint cooperation in the fields of artificial intelligence, technology and key minerals.

The two leaders also discussed regional stability, deterrence of actions through pressure and force, and an immediate resolution to the long-standing issue of North Korea’s abduction of Japanese citizens.

During the meeting, Japanese Prime Minister Takaichi laughingly requested the journalists to vacate the room so that the two leaders could discuss important issues privately.
