Eating too many bananas can cause weight gain, experts say

It is often asked how many bananas are safe to eat daily. So, nutritionists say that most healthy adults can safely eat two to three bananas per day as part of a balanced diet. However, eating too many bananas can lead to weight gain and nutrient deficiencies or imbalances.

According to experts, bananas are easily available, naturally sweet and nutritious. They contain manganese, potassium, vitamin C and vitamin B6. However, eating several bananas per day may not be suitable for everyone, especially those with certain medical conditions.

According to experts, eating too many bananas can have the following effects.

1. Excess potassium: A medium-sized banana contains about 400 mg of potassium. Healthy people with normal kidney function can usually eat two to three bananas per day without much concern.

However, it may be difficult for the body to remove excess potassium from the blood in people with kidney problems. This can result in hyperkalemia (excess potassium in the blood), which can cause muscle weakness, paralysis, and irregular heartbeat.

2. Sudden rise in blood sugar:

According to experts, it may be more beneficial for people with diabetes to eat bananas with protein or healthy fats instead of just eating them. Because bananas contain carbohydrates and natural sugars, eating them plain can cause blood sugar to rise relatively quickly.

3. Digestive problems:

According to the nutritionist, eating too many bananas can also cause problems like gas, bloating or diarrhea. FODMAPs are also found in bananas along with fiber. This is a type of carbohydrate that can be difficult for some people to digest.

For this reason, people with IBS or people who are sensitive to high-fiber foods may experience more digestive symptoms after eating bananas.
