Researcher, Georgetown University Qatar professor, Middle East analyst Luciano Zaccara has said in one of his articles that the events of the past week in the region have created signs of a change in the balance of power.

In his article published in Arab media, Luciano Zaccara claimed that Yemen’s Houthi rebels have captured significant areas of the West Bank, after which it remains to be seen whether the Saudi-backed Yemeni government forces succeed in repelling the Houthis.

According to Zakara, the Bab al-Mandab strait is also under the influence of the Houthis, while the strait of Hormuz has already become the center of international attention due to Iran’s attacks.

He has said that the Houthis have announced not to close the Bab al-Mandab strait, but the Houthis have the ability to close the Bab al-Mandab.

Zakara says that whether the Houthis are following Iran’s orders or not, the Houthis’ actions are proving to be beneficial for Iran because it has put both important sea lanes under threat.

The analyst has further said that Saudi Arabia has also been severely affected by the advance of the Houthis in western Yemen, while the increase in oil prices is also among the effects of this situation.

According to Luciano Zaccara, Saudi efforts to use alternative energy transmission routes to avoid the Strait of Hormuz have also not been fully effective as expected.
