Incidents of rape against women in India have rekindled the debate on women’s protection.

According to foreign media, this recent incident reminded of an incident in 2012 in which a 23-year-old student was gang-raped and killed inside a bus.

Even after this incident there were nationwide protests.

According to official data, in 2024, an average of 80 rape cases were reported in India every day.

Women’s rights activist Yogita Bhayana while talking to foreign media said that no one is working on the real solution to this crime and that solution is a change of mindset.

He said that there is still a mentality that it is a woman’s fault to stay out late, it is very sad that the society still thinks this way.

Woman lawyer Shilpi Jain says the police and courts lack the resources to investigate cases properly, the problem is not the law but the people who are enforcing it.

He said that judges and police officers are overwhelmed with work, one police station handles the cases of 2 to 3 lakh people, how will this system work? It’s a never-ending vicious cycle.

Shilpi Jain says that a typical rape case takes 7 to 8 years and if the case goes to the Supreme Court, it takes 20 years, resulting in the fear of the law disappearing from the heart of the perpetrators and the victims losing hope.
