
30-year-old Ramanuja Goswami, who was arrested for beheading his wife and keeping her head in a refrigerator, died after jumping from a police car in Guwahati, Assam, India.
According to Indian media, Ramanuja Goswami was being taken back to the police station after a medical examination at Guwahati Medical College and Hospital on Monday morning when he suddenly attacked the policemen near a hill and jumped from a moving vehicle.
The accused fell into a deep ditch and was seriously injured, the police immediately shifted him to Guwahati Medical College and Hospital where the doctors declared him brought dead.
It may be noted that Ramanuja Goswami was arrested on September 3 for allegedly murdering his 25-year-old wife Riya Talukdar in their Guwahati flat.
According to the police, the accused suspected his wife of infidelity, after neighbors complained about the smell coming from the flat, the police took action and recovered the severed head and fingers of the victim from a black plastic bag kept in the refrigerator.
Cases of murder and destruction of evidence were registered against the accused, he surrendered before the police on September 6 and the accused was on 7-day police remand.
According to Indian media, on September 8, the police took the suspect to the crime scene where he allegedly showed no remorse or regret for the murder, the suspect had threatened that if I was released from jail, I would also kill the person with whom my wife had a relationship.
