Korangi No. 6 is the target of environmental terrorism in Karachi, where aged banyan, neem, jackfruit and other trees were ruthlessly cut down.

These dead trees are 70 to 80 years old in the Korangi Karbala ground of Karachi. These matured trees should have been declared heritage, but they were brutally cut down by anti-environment elements in Karachi.

According to the Sindh Forest Department, 4 wild cactus, 3 conocarpus, 1 neem and 7 banyan trees have been cut.

Meanwhile, the residents of the neighborhood claim that these trees have been killed under the auspices of the police.

When the matter was discussed with Chairman Landhi Town Abdul Jameel Khan, he refused to take any responsibility saying that this ground is owned by KDA.

According to the local people, the armed mafia came from the nearby area and cut the trees with electric machines.

The KDA and the concerned police station were immediately informed and the locals also intervened, but the trees were cut down nonetheless.

According to KDA Director State and Enforcement Karachi Syed Zain Ali Shah, he was not informed about the tree cutting.

On the other hand, according to the Sindh Forest Department, these trees uprooted cannot be transplanted. A banyan tree can be saved, but the area does not come under their jurisdiction.

During the preparation of this report, several concerned persons were contacted but no one was willing to take responsibility regarding the felling of trees.
