Poor fire safety arrangements at the National Institute of Child Health (NICH) have been revealed.

According to sources, the emergency exits at the largest government children’s hospital are also closed, while several fire extinguishers are in poor condition.

Sources say that testing and monitoring of fire extinguishers in the hospital has not been done for a long time, while there is no effective fire safety alarm system.

According to sources, during the last 10 years, doctors, nurses and other staff of NICH were not given fire safety drill or even training.

Sources say that there have been 2 major fire incidents in NICH during the last 6 years.

On the other hand, Director NICH Dr. Nasir Sidal has confirmed that the emergency exit has been closed and said that the emergency exit of the hospital has been closed for security.

According to Dr. Nasir Sadal, there have been several incidents of theft in the hospital in the past, but the staff have the keys to the emergency exit doors.

He said that if any untoward incident happens in the hospital, the staff will be responsible for it.

Director NICH has said that there are fire extinguishers in the hospital, but the staff has not been trained in fire fighting, regarding which a meeting is being held.
