Pakistan Hockey Federation President Mohiuddin Wani has said that school hockey has been started at the grassroots level to regain the lost position of Pakistan Hockey, it will take time to correct the 25-year-old mistake.
He expressed these views in a conversation with Commissioner Karachi Syed Hasan Naqvi on the occasion of distribution of hockey kits to students at NJV School.
Muhyiddin Wani said that hockey is being spread all over Pakistan to find talented players from an early age and gradually promote them.
He said that national honor is dear, he will follow rules and regulations for competitions with India.
Speaking at the ceremony, Commissioner Karachi Syed Hasan Naqvi said that the government is taking all possible steps to restore the dignity of hockey, by paying attention to the school level and providing opportunities for children to learn the game of hockey, PHF is the best and right effort in this regard. It is hoped that through these efforts, the best players can be produced like in the past.
Deputy Commissioner South Javed Nabi Khoso, Principal NJV School Rukhsana Mangi, Olympian Samiullah, Hasan Sardar, Wasim Firoz, Nasir Ali, Gulfaraz Khan, Ayaz Mehmood, Mohammad Ali Khan, Ghulam Mohammad Khan, Samir Hussain and others were also present on this occasion.
President Pakistan Hockey Federation Mohiuddin Wani added that 8 hockey kits were provided for each school team, a total of 74 schools are being provided with kits, in total Hockey Federation will provide 1600 kits to children.
President PHF said that there is great hockey talent in the country, these efforts will bring out the best talent for the national team in the future.
The Commissioner said that the Karachi administration is working hard for the educational and physical development of the school children as well as for the prevention of polio.
Talking to the media regarding the restoration of the YMCA ground, Commissioner Karachi said that hockey activities will be restored in the ground soon.
He said that all the Deputy Commissioners are taking steps to revive youth sports in their respective districts, various playgrounds which were deserted have been restored, better pitches, grounds and courts will be built to raise the standard of sports.
