In the viral video, it can be seen that as a result of the devastating flood, flood relays are destroying small and big buildings, there are scenes of destruction everywhere, in such a situation, a small family was struggling to save life in their green house.

Surrounded by water, family members are huddled on balconies, hoping that their modest home will withstand the constant pressure of the water and see the next day.

Amazingly, not only were all the family members safe, but the house also stood in its place despite the destructive waves of the flood.

Structural experts also joined the debate and said that the house’s survival was no mere luck, where most of the surrounding buildings collapsed within minutes of being hit by the water, this house stood firm.

Why didn’t the house fall?

According to an account called Architecture Presentation on X, most houses in the Himalayan valleys of Nepal are built of stone masonry and usually do not have a reinforced concrete frame.

According to the above account, traditional house designs are capable of supporting vertical loads, but when subjected to severe pressure from the sides, the structure may collapse inwards.

The special feature of this house was that it was constructed on RCC concrete frame.

The video showed that continuous steel girders connected the columns, beams and foundation together to form a strong and cohesive structure.

When mud and water hit the house, the reinforced concrete frame absorbed the horizontal force and transferred it to the ground, allowing the building to maintain its balance, while the house’s site also played an important role.

It should be noted that more than 900 people died in the devastating flash floods in Nepal, while more than 3000 people are missing.
