After the shock drop of the first five seasons on the service last year, the Schlorpian family is officially returning to our screens. Solar opposites Season 6 will make its way to Netflix in the US (and other territories expected on the same date) on October 13, 2026.
Co-created by Mike McMahan and Justin Roiland, Rick and Morty has been a huge hit since its debut, setting records as the most-watched original comedy show on Hulu. The show revolves around a very dysfunctional family of aliens who escape the destruction of the planet Schlorp and crash-land on Earth. Their mission? To survive long enough to allow their infant-like cocoons to reform the planet – though they usually end up getting distracted by Earth culture, petty squabbles, and the shrinking human population.
As you may remember, the The first five seasons moved to Netflix globally last year. We’re excited to announce that the Season 6 addition is expected to be released globally as well, and will almost certainly be added to the US library.

How is Solar Opposites doing on Netflix?
When a licensed show moves to Netflix, we always monitor viewing numbers closely. Thanks to Netflix’s semi-annual engagement reports, we know that Solar Hazing has found a very strong second life on the platform, especially for an animated show. Since its arrival, it has racked up 111 million hours of viewing on the streaming device globally, which equates to 28.7 million views.

What to expect from Season 6 (and why fans are divided)

With a cast that includes Thomas Middleditch, Mary Mack, Sean Giambrone, and Dan Stevens (who seamlessly replaced Justin Roiland after abuse allegations), Hulu has ordered season six as the series’ grand finale. However, like many ambitious sci-fi shows, the ending was met with a mixed response from audiences.
Some fans felt the final season was a bit rushed, drawing comparisons to divisive TV finales like Buffy the Vampire Slayer or Lost. A major point of contention was the quick conclusion of the multi-season “The Wall” arc. In recent episodes, Christina Hendricks’ Sheri and the young survivors abandon their quest for Yumiulak’s shrink ray when they realize it will kill infant Paisley, eventually bartering with the teenage alien for better supplies.
Despite tying up many loose ends, the show leaves behind a tremendous adventure: [again, spoiler in case you’re going in fresh] A quick look into the future 90 years later indicates that the destruction of Earth was not caused by the cocoon, but by mistake by Shire.
Can Netflix (or Hulu) order ‘Solar Opposites’ season 7?
As of now, Season 7 is not currently ordered. Hulu has officially ended the series with season six. But in the age of streaming, cancellation isn’t always the end of the road.
In a recent exclusive interview with ScreenRant regarding his new adaptation of Golden Ax for Paramount+, co-creator Mike McMahon was asked about the chances of a Solar Hazing revival. McMahan laughed and gave fans a glimmer of hope, joking that the Schlorpians “won’t get out that easy”.
“Every time you think they’re out, they get pulled back in,” McMahon said. Speaking about the controversial result of the sixth season, He added: “I love that ending. I will advocate for that ending to everyone in the world. I did — if they let us bring it back, that ending would have paid off in a really fun way.”
Given the show’s massive success (it even spawned four holiday specials during its run on Hulu), the door is certainly not closed. Plus, with McMahan’s work schedule recently winding down following the end of the acclaimed animated series Star Trek: Lower Decks (which concluded with Season 5), the creator certainly has the bandwidth to bring his ambitious future stories to life.
