It’s time to pour it one last time, Serenity. Netflix has officially chosen not to renew Sweet magnolia For Season 6, the beloved feel-good drama comes to an end after five seasons and 50 episodes.

The news was first reported late Friday Exclusively by deadlineconfirms that the series starring Joanna Garcia Swisher, Brooke Elliott, and Heather Headley will not return to our screens. This decision comes after casting options were allowed to expire on Thursday night, with the official cancellation scheduled to take place on Friday.

We have been closely monitoring the display status on our master List of Netflix shows awaiting renewal or cancellation as of mid-2026. Unfortunately, the writing has been on the wall for some time, as Netflix has notably broken from its usual pattern with established hits by not commissioning a Season 6 writers room prior to the Season 5 premiere.

Viewership was trending down significantly Season by season, with Season 5 down 25% as of week 2 compared to Season 4. Here’s a breakdown of the series’ viewership (noting that Season 2 launched on a Friday compared to later seasons on Thursdays with Netflix’s reporting period being Monday through Sunday):

While we won’t get a season 6 to tie up the loose ends that we discussed on our site Explanation of the end of season fiveShowrunner Cheryl J. Anderson noted that they always strive to give audiences emotional satisfaction along with the viewers. The series finale concluded appropriately with the Magnolias sharing their signature margarita toast although there were a lot of story lines that we would have liked to see wrapped up in some way.

Following the cancellation news, Sweet Magnolias writers shared a heartfelt parting message to their fans and the cast and crew on Instagram. You can read the beautiful tribute in full below:

“All great adventures must eventually end. And here, dear friends, is where our adventures end.

SWEET MAGNOLIAS has now completed five seasons streaming on Netflix.

To the outstanding cast and crew: You are the Serenity. This show wouldn’t be what it is without your hard work, dedication, and love. Some days were long, some days were difficult, and many days were rainy. But work is lighter and more fun when shared with people like you. Whether you’ve been with us for one day or for all five seasons, you’ve left your mark on our beautiful South Carolina city. Be proud of what you’ve done.

To our partners at DLP Productions: Thank you for getting the party started. Thank you for bringing all these pieces and people together. It takes a village, and look at the village that helped bring it together.

To our partners at Netflix: Thank you for taking this journey. Seven years! Five seasons! And every day is filled with love and collaboration for our story and for each other.

Many fans in the comments did not like the characterization that the series was “now complete.”

However, it doesn’t hurt for fans of the show’s creative team, as Netflix has officially given the green light to a brand new drama series titled Ladies of the houseChoosing to move forward with the new project instead of Season 6 of Sweet Magnolias.

The new series will reunite showrunner Cheryl G. Anderson with Joanna Garcia Swisher, who is set to executive produce and is eyeing stardom. Loosely based on Lauren Edmondson’s novel – a modern retelling of Sense and Sensibility – the series follows a mother and two adult daughters who must overcome their messy personal issues to save the family winery after the unexpected death of the charismatic owner.

Netflix TUDUM, Deleting Sweet Magnolias Completely, Won’t Return to “Pour Yourself a Cup” (yes, really, the slogan is very similar to Sweet magnolia logo) for the new series, but for many, would the journey be worth taking if the show’s fate were to end the same way?
