The proposed police act was approved in the provincial cabinet meeting chaired by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi.

Provincial Ministers, IGP and Chief Secretary participated in the meeting. In the Cabinet meeting, the proposed Police Act was discussed in detail.

A copy of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Proposed Police Act 2026 has been obtained by Geo News. According to the act, the provincial government will have the authority to transfer all police officers including the appointment of the IGP. While the powers of the police authorities have been limited.

According to the proposed act, the provincial government will have the power to make all appointments and transfers in the police. The announcement of the appointment of IGP will be issued by the provincial government.

If the provincial government is not satisfied with the performance of the IG, it can request more names from the federation, in the absence of the IG, the Additional IG Headquarters will take charge as IG.

The Human Resource Department will issue notification for the appointment of SP, SSP and Additional IG, the powers of chairing the Police Policy Board will be transferred from the IG to the Chief Minister.

The chief minister will now have the authority to formulate policies for operational, financial and administrative affairs of the police.
