Sleeping in low light is likely to affect the performance of the heart

A recent study revealed that sleeping in dim light can affect heart performance.

The research comes at a time when the rising incidence of heart disease among younger people has raised health concerns.

During the research, scientists examined more than 11,000 people from the UK Biobank who did not have heart disease before.

Participants wore sensors on their wrists that recorded the amount of light emitted during the night for 7 days. After 3 years, they underwent various cardiovascular tests, including an MRI, to assess the structure and performance of their hearts.

The study found that people exposed to more than 3 lux of light while sleeping had relatively thicker heart muscle walls, especially in the wall of the left ventricle.

This thickening of the heart muscle reduces the space inside the left ventricle and affects the ability of the heart muscle to contract during each beat, which is an early sign of heart failure.

Experts have said that more research is needed to confirm these findings more precisely.
