bag w*Rejoice! After months of rumours, Netflix has officially confirmed the existence of the third part Pinyin The film is on the way, with production officially starting today in the UK.

Rumors of a revival of the series have been circulating for months, but Netflix has finally made it official. After a gap of 12 years since then Pinyin 2 In theaters in 2014, the streaming company is bringing back the iconic comedy quartet in an all-new feature film that will stream exclusively on Netflix globally.

Fans will be happy to hear that the starting four have officially been locked down. Simon Bird (Will MacKenzie), James Buckley (Jay Cartwright), Blake Harrison (Neil Sutherland), and Joe Thomas (Simon Cooper) all reprise their legendary roles as hopelessly awkward suburbanites.

Original series creators Damon Beesley and Ian Morris (who also worked on White Gold, which Netflix picked up as an original, even though it is no longer available) are also back to write and direct the new film. In a statement released alongside today’s production announcement, the duo shared their excitement:

“It’s been so much fun spending time with our friends again, and we’ll be working hard every week to make sure there’s no problem making this new movie for humans.”

This won’t be the only Netflix original project you’ll see James Buckley in over the next couple of years, either. As we recently reported, the actor is also filming an upcoming UK film Adaptation by Harlan Coben the forest For the washer.

Behind the camera, the film is being produced by Claire Jones, alongside Banijay’s Patrick Holland and Fudge Park Productions’ Mark Lesperil. Executive producers on the project include Caroline Levy, Caroline Leddy, Phil Gilbert, Susan Knight, Tom Jordan, and Farhana Paula, along with creators Ian Morris and Damon Paisley.

If this news sounds a little familiar, it’s because the project has been an open secret for some time now.

At the time, an insider suggested that Netflix was keen to greenlight the project after old episodes of the series found a massive second life on the streaming platform, introducing a whole new global generation to the boys’ adventures.

While today’s official Netflix press release focused strictly on the four main boys, we fully expect to see some familiar Rudge Park faces popping up when the official cast list expands.

Originally broadcast on Channel 4’s E4 network between 2008 and 2010, the comedy series followed the deeply awkward and relatable adventures of four friends navigating school life, friendship and always-failed romantic encounters at the fictional Rudge Park Comprehensive. Over three seasons, the show set massive ratings records and won numerous awards. The television success spawned two highly successful film outings supported by Film4 in 2011 and 2014. The first film absolutely dominated the box office, setting a record for the biggest opening weekend for a comedy film in the UK at the time, and the sequel followed up by breaking even more records.

When will Pinyin 3 Released on Netflix?

With cameras officially rolling in the UK from today, it’s too early for Netflix to attach a firm release date. However, given the standard production and post-production timelines for a comedy of this size, it’s very likely we’ll see Pinyin 3 It hits our screens globally at some point 2027.
