It looks like Netflix has another Dutch hit on its hands The perfect lie (D etclub). This thriller has risen to the top of the Top 10 list on Dutch Netflix, sparking a lot of conversations on social media and attracting a wave of positive reactions from subscribers. Which naturally leads us to the question everyone wants answered: Will there be a second season?

Netflix has not officially announced the second season yet. But anyone who watched the final episode will know that the writers didn’t just leave the door open for more. They practically ripped it off its hinges. There is another good reason to believe a follow-up is possible. Author Saskia Nort wrote two more books after that D etclubWhich means Netflix already has plenty of material it can sink its teeth into.

Season 2 still has a lot of stories to tell

The perfect lie It starts with beautiful homes, successful people, and sophisticated dinner parties. In other words, you’ll know right away that something is terribly wrong. No one needs that much wine, designer furniture, and that many uncomfortable looks if everything is really going well. Over seven episodes, we get relationships, lies, manipulation and secrets in industrial quantities. The central mystery is eventually solved, but that certainly doesn’t mean everyone’s problems are over.

For example, Haneke was found seriously injured after falling from a balcony, but we never found out who was responsible. Then there’s the mysterious figure walking around in a black hoodie, whose presence raises some questions of its own.

And we haven’t even gotten to Simon and Patricia. Simon becomes increasingly involved in illegal dealings and potential money laundering, while it becomes clear that Patricia knows much more than she wants to admit. She also happens to have a strong family behind her. In short, Season 2 will have no difficulty getting material.

Saskia Nort actually wrote the second part

Netflix won’t need to start from scratch if you decide to The perfect lie Season 2. After D etclub“, wrote Saskia Nort Debtswhich picks up the story roughly ten years later. Karen received another devastating blow and then discovered that her financial situation was much worse than she realized. Familiar faces return, and she soon finds herself once again surrounded by hidden money, money laundering, and some very dangerous people.

You would think that after everything Karen had been through D etclubyou will simply stay home and eat a sandwich for dinner from now on. Unfortunately for Karen, that’s not how thrillers work.

Patricia and her family became especially important in Debts. This makes the novel an obvious source of inspiration for Season 2, especially since the Netflix series has already laid a significant amount of groundwork in this direction.

This does not mean that the offer must be followed Debts Word for word. The first season really takes liberties with the original novel, expanding certain story lines and giving some characters more depth. So writers can borrow elements from Debts While combining it with mysteries that are intentionally left unsolved at the end.

Even season 3 is possible

Nort didn’t stop there Debts. I wrote later De Nazatenwhich shifts some of the focus towards a new generation. As it turns out, children are not completely immune to their parents’ mistakes. Old grudges resurface, crime rears its head again, and familiar characters are drawn back into the drama. So Netflix probably has enough source material not only The perfect lie Season 2, but also for a third season. Whether or not the series will go that far is another matter, of course. But the material is there.

When can season 2 be released?

At the moment, Netflix has not officially confirmed Season 2, so there is no release date to report. We’ll have to wait for the streamer to make the next move. But what is notable is the amount of effort Netflix Netherlands has put into promoting the series. The premiere was a big event, while artwork appeared on a Dutch beach to help put the release firmly in the spotlight. This isn’t the kind of promotional push Netflix gives per production. It definitely indicates that the streamer is keen to spin The perfect lie To great local success. So, Season 2 wouldn’t come as a huge surprise.
