The man who sprayed vinegar on Democratic US Congressman Ilhan Omar was sentenced to 14 months in prison.

According to US media, 56-year-old Anthony Kazmierczyk was sentenced almost eight months after the January 27 attack.

The judge said that an attack on a public figure is misguided, selfish and contrary to any notion of a free or democratic society.

The convicted criminal attacked Ilhan Omar during an ongoing crackdown on immigration.
