Bangladesh has hiked the prices of petroleum products by 17.4 percent after the Middle East war caused oil and shipping costs to rise.

Under the new prices, diesel has been increased from 115 to 135 taka per litre, petrol has been increased from 140 to 160 taka and kerosene has been increased from 135 to 155 taka per litre.

According to the Bangladeshi Ministry of Energy, global fuel prices have more than doubled since March 2026, while freight costs have also increased significantly due to regional tensions.

According to the ministry, between March and August, the state-owned Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation suffered a loss of 228.76 billion taka, which is about 1.9 billion dollars.
