In the details provided in the Senate, it has been revealed that which plant in the country is generating how much rupees per unit of electricity.

According to the documents, the cost of electricity from WAPDA dams is Rs 2.70 per unit and the cost of private IPPs has exceeded Rs 34 per unit.

The government has paid Rs 186 billion to WAPDA for 34.5 billion units while Rs 1040 billion has been transferred to private IPPs for 49.8 billion units.

According to the documents, more than 1300 billion rupees have been paid to IPPs in the current financial year as capacity charges.

Tarbela hydel is the cheapest source in the country generating power at just Rs 2.70 paise per unit while Mangala hydel is Rs 3.75 and the overall average cost of all dams was recorded at Rs 5.39 per unit.

According to the documents, Chashma nuclear power plant earns Rs 6.76 per unit and local Thar coal earns Rs 19.03 per unit.

Imported coal plants Sahiwal Coal stood at Rs 34.17 and Port Qasim at Rs 32.16 per unit.
