Young American engineering expert Nathan Thomas broke the 306-year-old Guinness World Record to become the world’s youngest male professor, drawing comparisons with Sheldon Cooper, the genius character of the popular TV series ‘The Big Bang Theory’.

Nathan Thomas set the record when he became an engineering professor at Miami-Dade College at the age of just 18 years and 346 days, a record previously held by Scottish mathematician Colin McLaren, who became a professor in 1717 at the age of 19.

Nathan began his education at an extraordinary pace when he was only 10 years old and enrolled in 2 courses at Miami-Dade College, at the age of 14 he enrolled at Florida International University.

By age 18, Nathan earned his Bachelors and Masters degrees in Electrical Engineering from Florida International University with highest honors.

In August 2023, he returned to the same Miami-Dade College as a professor, where he began teaching computing and programming to students around his own age.

When Nathan was asked if he faced any difficulty in teaching among fellow students of his age, he replied that age doesn’t matter in the classroom, everyone is there to learn, that’s the point, age doesn’t come in between, I also learn a lot while teaching others.

Despite setting records, 21-year-old Nathan hasn’t stopped his academic pursuits, still teaching online as well as pursuing a law degree from the University of Miami.
