
Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Junaid Anwar Chaudhry presented a 10-year national plan for the conservation of sharks and promotion of sustainable fisheries in Pakistan.
In this regard, Junaid Anwar Chaudhry has said that Pakistan will achieve a prominent position in sustainable shark fishing by 2035.
He has said that up to 5 million dollars will be required for the first 5 years of the project, while effective measures will be taken to prevent illegal finning of sharks.
The federal minister says that steps will also be taken to prevent accidental deaths of sharks and their marine habitat will be protected.
He has said that shark numbers and stocks will be reviewed every year, while alternative employment opportunities will be provided to fishing communities.
Junaid Anwar Chaudhry says that the implementation of the laws related to the protection of sharks will be made more effective, the protection of sharks is also Pakistan’s responsibility under international environmental agreements.
