In the 190 million pound scam case, Bushra Bibi filed a request for an early hearing of the appeal against the sentence.
Former First Lady Bushra Bibi, imprisoned in Adiala Jail, requested the Federal Constitutional Court to schedule the appeal of suspension of sentence for an early hearing due to the deteriorating condition of her eyes.
Bushra Bibi’s lawyer Barrister Salman Safdar has requested in the petition that the appeal be fixed for hearing in the week starting from September 21.
According to the petition, Bushra Bibi was sentenced to 7 years of rigorous imprisonment on January 17, 2025 for aiding and abetting under the National Accountability Ordinance.
It said that the application for suspension of sentence was pending in the Islamabad High Court for more than a year and three months, scheduled for hearing 16 times and rejected on April 30.
The petition said that an appeal was filed against this decision on July 31 in the Federal Constitutional Court, which has not yet been scheduled for hearing.
Bushra Bibi’s medical condition has been cited as the main reason in the request for early hearing. According to the medical records, he was diagnosed with posterior vitreous detachment in his right eye on March 28.
He underwent surgery at Al-Shafa Trust Eye Hospital on April 16 due to a sudden loss of vision.
According to the petition, an examination on July 24 revealed progression of the same disease in the left eye, followed by further medical examinations on July 29 and August 5.
The plea submitted through Barrister Salman Safdar contended that the disease was affecting both eyes and further delay could endanger Bushra Bibi’s eyesight.
The petition said that the matter of suspension of sentence has been pending for a total of 19 months and Bushra Bibi is not responsible for this delay.
It should be noted that Bushra Bibi was sentenced to 7 years imprisonment with hard labor on 17 January 2025 in the 190 million pound scam case.
