Bollywood ‘star kids’ (artists from film dynasties) are often criticized, but in the history of Indian cinema, ‘Showman’ Raj Kapoor is recognized as India’s most successful star kid.

At the age of just 27, Raj Kapoor made the film ‘Awara’ (1951) which created new flags of success not only in India but also across the world including the Soviet Union (now Russia and other Central Asian states) and China.

‘Awara’ received critical acclaim internationally and was nominated at the Cannes Film Festival, a historic honor for any Indian actor or director during that era.

If seen in today’s terms, the global business of Raj Kapoor’s films is comparable to a gross of over Rs 2,000 crores, which even today’s big superstars like Ranbir Kapoor, Salman Khan or Allu Arjun could not come close to.

Carrying on the legacy of his father Prithviraj Kapoor, Raj Kapoor produced films under RK Studios that gave Indian cinema worldwide recognition.
