A Spanish pastry chef has created a stunning 500kg wedding cake, which took four months to make. Catalan pastry chef Marc Suez called it his most spectacular wedding cake ever.
This masterpiece is decorated with thousands of flower petals made of sugar paste and weighs almost half a ton.
Mark Swayze is famous across Europe for his gourmet cakes, but his latest masterpiece is truly a masterpiece! At 3.5 meters high and 1.8 meters wide, this masterpiece looks more like a museum piece than a wedding cake.
This cake was ordered by a Saudi family for a royal wedding. Suarez took about a month and a half to create a concept for the cake and another four months to make the concept a reality before producing it. Although he usually works alone, for this particular project he enlisted the help of several of his pastry chef friends and their families. Adding 33,000 petals to the cake alone was an incredibly labor-intensive task.
According to Suarez, family, friends and acquaintances joined hands to prepare the cake. “I usually work alone, but this time the order was so big that even with my pastry chef friends, we lacked enough manpower,” he said.
The magnificent cake took around 1,800 hours to make and the 500kg cake was served at the Paris Opéra Garnier for the wedding of a Saudi couple, who asked not to be identified.
On the unusual complexity of the cake, Suarez explained that the newlyweds wanted a cake that didn’t look like a cake, but more like a memorial building that paid tribute to the ceremony and the magnificent location.
Interestingly, Suarez revealed that only about 0.1 percent of his masterpiece is actual cake, while almost all of the rest is handmade sugar paste and white chocolate.
