Jacob Cookson, a former researcher at OpenAI and Anthropic, has warned that trying to develop super-intelligent artificial intelligence (AI) is like summoning aliens.

He explained that developing super-intelligent AI means creating a mind that humans neither fully understand nor are guaranteed to control.

Speaking on a TV show, Jacob Cookson said that the concept of superintelligence has been likened to summoning an alien, so seeing it in the context of an alien mind that we don’t fully understand is terrifying even without any concrete catastrophic scenarios.

Jacob Coxon is not the first to raise such concerns, concerns about the potential extinction of humanity if artificial intelligence continues at its current pace have been raised before.
