Indian filmmaker Karan Johar has revealed that the film ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’ released in 1998 not only changed my film career but also proved to be important for my family in difficult situations.

Speaking during the Moroccan Film Festival in Morocco, Karan Johar has said that in the late 90s, filmmakers were facing threats from the underworld.

According to Karan Johar, I, father and mother also received threatening phone calls, which forced me to move to London to stay away from Mumbai.

He has said that 5 days after the release of the film ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’, I went to meet Aditya Chopra to know the performance of the film, I told him that I want to buy a big house for my parents, on which Aditya Chopra told me to buy any house of your choice because the film turned out to be a blockbuster.

Karan Johar has said that my parents’ reaction to the news was very emotional, as it was almost 20 years later that my family had to face such a situation.

Kuch Kuch Hota Hai was Karan Johar’s directorial debut, starring Shah Rukh Khan, Rani Mukherjee and Kajol in lead roles, the film grossed INR 106.7 crore worldwide against a budget of INR 10 crore.
