
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has decided to amend the Police Act 2017.
According to sources, an amendment draft has been prepared to give the province the authority to appoint IG Khyber Pakhtunkhwa under these amendments.
Sources have said that after the amendments, the chief minister will have the authority to appoint and transfer RPOs and DPOs like the bureaucracy.
Sources say that a Public Safety Commission will be established to supervise the policing, the member of the provincial assembly will be the head of this commission.
According to the sources, the Police Act has also proposed the establishment of Regional Complaints Authority.
In this regard, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Law Minister Aftab Alam while talking to ‘Jeo News’ said that they are making improvements in the Police Act 2017, policing is a provincial subject, it is not a federal authority.
They say that they are improving the check and balance on the police so that there is no misuse of powers, the Peshawar High Court had withdrawn the authority to transfer RPOs and DPOs from the provincial government.
According to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Law Minister Aftab Alam, they are not reducing the powers of the police, they are improving these powers.
