In the Sindh Assembly, the Local Government Amendment Bill 2026 was passed. According to the bill, the mayor will take over the powers of the administrator after the term of the council expires. The noise of the opposition, the protest is futile, the Local Government Amendment Bill presented by Sindh Interior and Law Minister Zia Lanjar was passed in the House by a majority vote. Before presenting the bill, Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs Ziaul Hasan Linjar presented the report of the Special Committee on the Sindh Local Government Act 2026. The Law Minister was presenting the report that the opposition members started making loud noise and commotion in the house. They tore the copies of the bill during their protest. During the noise of the opposition, the house passed the Sindh Local Government Act 2026 by majority vote. After which the meeting of Sindh Assembly was adjourned till 3 pm on Tuesday. Many important changes have been made in the new amendment law. Under the Sindh Local Government Amendment Act 2026, the mayor will take over the powers of the administrator when the term of the council ends. The Sindh Local Government Amendment Bill 2026 has added a conciliation commission which has been mandated to be formed within 90 days. It should be clear that Mayor Murtaza Wahab assumed the post of Mayor on June 18, 2023 and now his term will end on June 17, 2027, after which he will remain the head of the KMC. Mayor Karachi Murtaza Wahab was the administrator of KMC even before the municipal election and he has been running the affairs of the organization as an administrator for almost 2 years now if he remains in this position even after June 16, 2027, he will create a new record of being in this position at the same time.
