Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has met with Iranian President Masoud Al-Badzikian on the occasion of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Defense Minister Khawaja Mohammad Asif, Special Assistant Tariq Fatemi were also present in the meeting with the Prime Minister.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi also participated in the meeting.

In the meeting between the two leaders, Pakistan-Iran relations and the situation in the region were discussed.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is hopeful for lasting peace between the US and Iran, vowing to continue mediation efforts to reduce tensions.

Speaking to the media on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly session, Shahbaz Sharif said that the peace process was affected by unexpected events after the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding. Pakistan is playing the role of a sincere and honest mediator between Iran, its neighboring countries and the United States.

The Prime Minister said that the whole focus is on this matter, hope has not been lost. On the question of the meeting between the US and the Iranian President, the Prime Minister said that this is an ongoing process, all friendly countries are making efforts for peace.
