Renowned Indian singer, live performer and composer Kailash Kher says that conversation should be conducted with caution, gentleness and politeness within the realm of civility.

The 53-year-old Meerut-based singer made the comment in the wake of criticism over his jokes about Bihar and Kashmir in the comedy show India’s Got Latent.

Kailash Kher’s comment comes amid criticism of a conversation between comedian Same Raina and comedian Sharon Verma in Season 2 of India’s Got Latent. The case has also gained political attention as jokes about Bihar and Kashmir were made in it.

While talking to Indian media, Kailash Kher said in reference to the debate going on in stand-up comedy on social media about making fun of statements and identities related to Kashmiri Pandits and Biharis.

Sharon Verma, who was also a former contestant from the first season, joined the panel along with Samey Raina, Ori, Archanapuran Singh and Nishant Suri. During the episode, Raina made a joke based on Verma’s Bihari background and common notions of migration for employment. In response, Verma made a statement about Raina’s Kashmiri identity and stone pelting. He also said that he had at least left his state willingly.

Extremist Shiv Sena leader Anand Dubey criticized Same Raina’s comedy and said that caste, states or religions should be avoided in such comedies.

Same Raina and Sharon Verma are yet to respond to the criticism of their conversation.
