After years of rumours, false starts, and behind-the-scenes legal drama, we finally have official confirmation: Netflix is back in the depths of hell. An animated series based on the legendary Blizzard Entertainment story Diablo The franchise is officially underway.
The huge announcement came live from Anaheim this weekend during the opening ceremony of BlizzCon 2026. The two-day fan fest represents a massive milestone, as it is the first-ever BlizzCon since Microsoft completed its historic $69 billion acquisition of Activision Blizzard in 2023. Blizzard President Joanna Farris took the stage to deliver the good news.
“BlizzCon itself means a lot to all of us to be able to highlight all the great work going on at Blizzard,” Farris shared in a statement before the event. “We’ve been thinking a lot about this moment, the why of now, and how we continue to capitalize on and build on the momentum we’re seeing as an organization.”
As part of this momentum, Blizzard issued an official statement detailing its renewed partnership with the streamer:
“After decades of bringing entire universes to life through our games, we’re partnering with some creative forces to tell more stories beyond games across new screens. A new animated series set in a Diablo In development with Netflix. More details will be shared in the future, but this is just the beginning, with more to come across our universes.
