Karachi’s Additional Sessions Court South rejected a plea to register a case against private bank officials in the case of alleged commercial use of Safe City project cameras.

The court issued instructions to the IG Sindh regarding the use of Safe City cameras and said that police assistance should not be provided to the financial institution without legal permission.

The court clarified that the focal person of a private bank would not be allowed to access the Safe City system, while access would be subject to security measures even if legally permitted.

The court held that a private bank can initiate legal proceedings to recover its dues.

The court directed the IG Sindh to convey the court orders to all the concerned police authorities and the concerned police authorities to submit a report on the legal provisions within 15 days.

The petitioner had contended that the Safe City cameras were being used by private entities for commercial purposes.
